ARTISTIC RESIDENCY 4 > 11 DEC Palácio Gama Lobo - Loulé INFORMAL PRESENTATION / PUBLIC MOMENT Place, date and time to be defined
When we learn our mother language, we build a matrix that stays with us forever, helping us structure our thought and the way we express ourselves with the world surrounding us.
A new language thus represents a new place; it’s an opportunity to question everything. New sounds and new emotions from other languages and other cultures force us to relearn to listen. That is why to learn a new language is to enlarge our ability to see the world.
Using the learning of a new language and all the difficulties inherent to it as a starting point, Nuno Lucas believes that, in this gesture, the inherent difficulties – the choking, the difficulty in articulating, the embarrassment, the frustration of wanting to speak without knowing, knowing what one wants to say but not how to say it, the joy of making oneself understood – all express many of the issues he wants to work on.
Eu cá, Tu lá / Me Here, You There is a play about the initiation to listening. Listening to the other, about our difficulty in expressing ourselves, but especially about the need to relearn what we thought we already knew as well.
This is the first artistic residency for the creation of this performance. Still in an early research stage, Nuno Lucas thinks about the language of the youngest, integrating the regional linguistic specificities to reflect upon its meaning on his final play.
