BARBARA STAŃKO-JURCZYŃSKA – Two Colors. Single-Selection

FRI 18 APR / 15h00 > 18h00
LAC - Laboratório de Actividades Criativas, Lagos

Performance / M12 / On going
Free Admittance

The performance Two Colors. Single-selection begins with an examination of the body, noting its differences, boundaries, separateness, and shame. It explores the perception of the body entangled in disease, always understood through its prism. Port Wine Stains are capillary malformations – birthmarks on the skin in shades of red. During the show, they will become both material and a tool for exploring individuality and intimacy. The body will become social, subjected to opinion, utilized, and adapted to expectations and constructs.
The situation also involves a transfer of power into the hands of the audience, with the final outcome depending on them. Participants will receive instructions to follow, but ultimately, they must decide which path to take. After that, there will be no turning back – once made, the decision is permanent.

Performance: Barbara Stańko-Jurczyńska

Barbara Stańko-Jurczyńska (2000, Poland) is a feminist, a visual artist, and a member of the Basta anti-fascist collective. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Sculpture at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań. Her practice is rooted in artivism, community engagement, and disability studies.
She creates performances, produces site-specific works, and frequently engages in interactive projects. In her projects, she treats her body as sculptural material, alluding to Port Wine Stain – a condition she has lived with all her life. In her artistic practice, she engages with found situations, pushing them to the limits of absurdity. She explores the dynamics of violence, juxtaposing it with seemingly incongruous elements to challenge perceptions of power and vulnerability.
