Down to Under investigates the city’s influence on the human body, exploring the urbanscape as an ever-changing algorithm, at once a playground, a battleground, a living space, as well as a confinement. Inspired on video gaming, the internet and Gen Z culture, the performing bodies enact physicalities and gestures appearing in urban underground music-based subcultures, such as hip-hop / rap, emo, noise, hardcore and punk, exploring forms of social disobedience through movement and sound. These performing bodies, charged by the effects of social injustice and struggle, proactively and playfully appropriate the space and expose their confusion, frustration and rage while allowing their physical effort to transform into vulnerability, tenderness and intimacy.
