In 2022 Verão Azul will keep on following the cycle started in 2018, inviting artists to work in, and with, the Algarve region – welcoming projects that discuss the relationship of arts and society, encouraging artists to establish relationships with the region and introduce these experiences in their performances, all this while also appealing to the local communities to engage and participate in these processes and narratives.
This is a year zero. A year of consolidation of the work developed before, with the return of artists from the Festival’s previous editions – Pauliana Valente Pimentel, Daniel V. Melim, Tiago Gandra, Nuno Lucas – deepening their connections to this places and their communities – and, at the same time, summoning young emerging artists – Daniel Matos.
Throughout 2022 Verão Azul will return to the cities of Lagos, Loulé and Faro, involving the artists in creative residencies, shows, opening their artistic process to the general public – through workshops, open talks, or even by participating in performances.
Wanting to widen and strengthen the spaces for direct participation by the local communities, the festival’s programme also includes two projects by Ana Borralho & João Galante (happening in Loulé and Lagos), which require the participation of young people and adults, reaffirming the strong and singular bond this duo has with the public(s).
